Carnival Corp. & plc has extended an agreement with Port Everglades that includes preferential use of its multiple terminals until 2030.
The agreement makes the Miami company a priority when it comes to five terminals at the port, including Port Everglades’ newly renovated Cruise Terminal 4, which recently received $24 million in upgrades. The extension pertains to the 15-year agreement Carnival Corp. reached with county commissioners in 2010.
As part of the original agreement, the port underwent a $54 million renovation project to accommodate the massive ships. With the extension of the deal, Carnival Corp. and Port Everglades will explore the possibility of future improvements to Cruise Terminal 21 that would result in it courting even bigger ships.
Carnival Corp.’s Carnival Splendor will also sail from Port Everglades during the 2017 summer season. It will be the port’s second ship from Carnival Cruise Line.
