The “Wonderful Wizard of Woz” has been announced as the keynote speaker of the fourth annual eMerge Americas conference in Miami Beach.
Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL), will headline the June 12-13 convention taking place at the Miami Beach Convention Center. Last year, there were more than 13,000 attendees, 400 companies and 110 startups at the event.
Wozniak and the late Steve Jobs are widely known as pioneers of the personal computer revolution and created what is currently the No. 3 company on Forbes’ Fortune 500 list, under Wal-Mart and Exxon Mobil.
At eMerge, Wozniak will be in the company of speakers Sprint Corp. CEO Marcelo Claure and leaders from Coral Gables-based Cisneros Group, among other tech executives and investors.
“We’re very excited to unveil this first set of speakers, and look forward to sharing more exciting updates to our content lineup for this year’s event in the weeks ahead,” said Xavier Gonzalez, CEO of eMerge Americas.
Registration opened for eMerge on March 17. Its most popular sessions, including the WIT (Women, Innovation and Technology Summit and the Start-Up Showcase, will return this year.
The Showcase will have 125 startups competing for $175,000 in prizes.
Billionaire Manny Medina launched eMerge in 2014 with the goal of spotlighting the growing technology industries in South Florida and Latin America. It drew 6,000 attendees in its first year.
